How to Shop Right

Posted by Shue in shopping on 04 14th, 2009

I must admit that I love shopping. And when it is for special occasions like a birthday or an anniversary, it is more exciting too. Read on for knowing how you can shop to your heart’s content without making a hole in your pocket.

I make it a point to go shopping at discount sales and stock clearance sales before Christmas Eve or New Year’s. The prices are low and fit your budget. If you know what you wish to buy for the upcoming birthday or anything else you can choose easily from the available choices.

Who knows, you might end up getting a great deal with such shopping!

Make the Best of Post-It Notes

Posted by Shue in Tips on 04 13th, 2009

Most of us use Post-it notes at work since a long time. I found out that these sticker notes are very useful at home too.

The other day I left a message for my house-cleaning help using this Post-It note, since she does not own a cell phone. I also use them for making to-do lists and shopping lists. My kid has discovered one more use- she makes a picture directly on the note so that I can paste it on the fridge or anywhere!

So be creative and tell me how you plan to use the Post-It notes at home!

Laundry Tricks

Posted by Shue in Tips on 04 12th, 2009

Today I am going to tell you some tricks for doing laundry faster. You will wonder what to do with that extra time on hand!

Firstly, separate the colored clothes from whites. If you have a baby, his or her clothes need to be washed separately than ours to avoid infection. In case of heavily soiled clothes such as the t-shirt your kid wore to the soccer game, it is better to soak them for a while before actually putting them into the washing machine. They come out cleaner as the dirt is loosened up.

Any more tricks that you know?

Do you have a leaking tap?

Posted by Shue in Bathroom, Kitchen on 04 11th, 2009

I have some friends who just don’t bother about a leaking tap or a juicer that has stopped working in their house. How can they be at peace when something in their house is NOT working??

Whenever I have any such problem, I see to it that the electronic appliance or anything that needs attention is repaired. Even if you don’t need certain things in your routine chores, it is important that they are in working condition. This way you are saved from trouble later on when you actually wish to use it.

What do you think- am I right?

Think Before Buying

Posted by Shue in shopping on 04 10th, 2009

Shopping malls are made to attract consumers like you and me to buy their products. When you have to run a house, you must prioritize your requirements before shopping for anything.

For instance, if you already have a big bag of dish-washing liquid stocked up, it is waste of money to buy another one just because it is offered at a huge discount. You might be earning more than you need each month, but after all, you are not working hard only to waste on such unnecessary shopping!

So don’t fall for those lucrative discounts and buy ONLY what is needed right now!

Microwave Care Tips

Posted by Shue in Kitchen on 04 9th, 2009

I am one of those people who just cannot do without the microwave oven in my kitchen! I use it for reheating, cooking and sometimes for baking too. I am going to share my insider tips on caring for your microwave here.

Always keep the microwave clean from inside and free from food particles that tend to drop while cooking. Pull out the plug when not in use so that kids don’t tamper with it. Remember to use microwave safe containers ONLY…any plastic cup or bowl is not meant for the microwave.

Do you have any such simple hints to share?

How to Have Greener Plants

Posted by Shue in Home Decorating Tips on 04 8th, 2009

I am a gardening buff. I have lots of plants in my home and backyard that I love attending to. But I realized that in certain seasons my green patch does not look as green as the rest of the year.

I consulted a local nursery and this is what they told me. Plants need to be moved to different locations (within the house or outside) for getting sufficient sunlight. This is necessary to keep them greener when the sun changes directions. If you live in an area where it is chilly for most part of the year, you can go for plants that grow well in shade.

Variety is The Spice of Life!

Posted by Shue in Hand Made on 04 7th, 2009

When I am bored with housework, I have a favorite pastime. Do you want to know about it?

All I do is change the upholstery, curtains, bed sheets, pillow cases and bed covers in my house. Each one of us has two to three sets of all this linen just like me. So I keep on interchanging between them and the house starts looking new!

I actually feel fresh after doing this. The home linen gets cleaned before getting too soiled, so you save on laundry costs too!

Try it yourself and let me know what your family feels about this!

Does Your Kid Have an Art Corner?

Posted by Shue in Home Decorating Tips on 04 6th, 2009

My daughter sketches several ‘masterpieces’ each day and she expects me to display ALL of them on the soft board or the fridge! Some times I have no place left for these exhibits, so I was thinking of some solution to this.

That is when I thought of making an Art Corner for her. You can choose a corner or a wall in the kid’s room that is meant just for art display. Tie a colored string to hang on the pictures or craft items made by the kid.

My daughter is happy to show off her work to everyone that enters her room, what about you?

Think Colorful!

Posted by Shue in Home Decorating Tips on 04 5th, 2009

While doing your kid’s bedroom, always take into consideration his views on it. Depending on his or her age, the child might have different cartoon characters that he likes or some superhero that he aims to be!

The most important part in decorating a baby’s room is the color scheme you use. If you are going for wallpapers, you can select from any of the baby prints. If you are going for a painting job, use bright colors that make the atmosphere cheerful.

You can buy matching curtains to go with it and there you are- nothing can make your child happier!
