It is indeed irritating to find a clogged sink when you are in a hurry. There are several anti-clogging powders available that help you out in such emergencies. There are certain tricks that will keep your kitchen sink clear and not give rise to such situations.

Make it a point to pour a glass of very hot water down the drain every night before bedtime. This will wash out all the oily and greasy food stuff that sticks to the water pipes and keep it clean. Make sure that no food particles are left in the dishes before washing them in the sink to avoid clogging later.

I have some friends who just don’t bother about a leaking tap or a juicer that has stopped working in their house. How can they be at peace when something in their house is NOT working??

Whenever I have any such problem, I see to it that the electronic appliance or anything that needs attention is repaired. Even if you don’t need certain things in your routine chores, it is important that they are in working condition. This way you are saved from trouble later on when you actually wish to use it.

What do you think- am I right?

I am one of those people who just cannot do without the microwave oven in my kitchen! I use it for reheating, cooking and sometimes for baking too. I am going to share my insider tips on caring for your microwave here.

Always keep the microwave clean from inside and free from food particles that tend to drop while cooking. Pull out the plug when not in use so that kids don’t tamper with it. Remember to use microwave safe containers ONLY…any plastic cup or bowl is not meant for the microwave.

Do you have any such simple hints to share?

I have an electric chimney hood from Faber. It is really helpful when I am deep-frying snacks for a party. It absorbs all the cooking smells and your guests don’t know the menu as they enter the house!

How many of us remember to clean it regularly? Every electric chimney has to be cleaned after different intervals of time. So make it a point to scrub the filter screens and the outer body of the chimney, especially after a party, for making the most of it.

You will get a fresher home and a better performing chimney, any comments on this?

I feel we really take our refrigerator for granted. Have you ever thought what we would do without our fridge at home? I will tell you how to care for it so that it will serve you well for years.

When you clean the fridge you should use vinegar instead of plain soap water to wipe it from inside. This will get rid of mildew fungus in the initial stages itself. One more useful tip is to place some baking soda in a cup in the fridge. It will absorb the food smells and keep the fridge free from odor.
