Is your Electric Chimney Serving The Purpose?
Posted by Shue in Kitchen on 03 31st, 2009
I have an electric chimney hood from Faber. It is really helpful when I am deep-frying snacks for a party. It absorbs all the cooking smells and your guests don’t know the menu as they enter the house!
How many of us remember to clean it regularly? Every electric chimney has to be cleaned after different intervals of time. So make it a point to scrub the filter screens and the outer body of the chimney, especially after a party, for making the most of it.
You will get a fresher home and a better performing chimney, any comments on this?

Every year as school is over, I am happy. You know why- so that I can make a diary for myself. But how do I do it?
I buy lots of notebooks for my kid for practicing school work. All of them are not used up throughout the year. So I make best out of waste. I tear out all the blank pages from these notebooks and bind them using a thick thread to make a diary. I use such hand made diaries for making lists or planning a dinner party or anything else.
So are you waiting to make one now?

Yard sales are my favorite hangout. You can get a good deal if you are lucky enough. Holding a yard sale in your garage in a different issue altogether, so right now I’ll discuss about some tips for attending a yard sale instead!
Remember not to buy any Recall items in such sales. They are anyway not of use and might be harmful too. If you are looking for something like an antique figurine for decorating your house, a yard sale can be a good place to visit.
All you need is an eye for detail and there you go!
Save On Electricity Bills

We all know that the energy resources are dwindling and we must do something about it.
But what should we do? All we do is pay the electricity bills and switch off lights when not needed. This is not enough.
Have you checked the wiring in your house? It is advisable that the electric wiring is examined regularly by technicians so that you can repair a faulty wire in time. Moreover you need to replace the entire wiring at an interval of about five to ten years as per the wear and tear. This will help you reduce your power consumption and you can save on bills too.
Be a Smart Cleaner

I have the experience that I end up spending a lot of time each weekend cleaning up the house but still cannot cover all the problem areas. I always wondered where I am going wrong…and then one fine day I came across a cleaning apron!
This apron is just like any other apron but has pockets to hold the cleaning supplies and other tools such as brushes etc. You can move between rooms wearing this apron and thus save a LOT of time! My cleaning spree is incomplete without an apron these days!
Do you have any such time-saving tips too? Why not share with me?
List It Down
Posted by Shue in shopping on 03 26th, 2009
How many times have you been to a superstore and shopped for everything except what you actually need for the house? I know we sometimes need retail therapy, but not always!
The best way to avoid splurging is making a list of items to be bought. You can divide the shopping list into categories like ‘must-have’, ‘can wait’ and ‘absolute luxury’. So when you jot down the items write directly into the respective category. This way you save each time you go shopping as you will buy the ‘must-have’ items on priority basis.
Add up these savings to buy a luxury item later on, what say?
Keep Your House Dust-Free
Posted by Shue in Cleaning tips on 03 25th, 2009
There must many amongst us who need to vacuum clean the house more than others do. Why does this happen? Is dust attracted to our houses only?
It is not so. Keeping windows open for a long time will naturally bring in dust along with the cool breeze. So if you wish to cut down on some cleaning jobs on weekends and if you want a cleaner house then closing the windows for most part of the day is the only option.
It has helped me as I get some time to enjoy with my family now. Why don’t you try?
Is Your Home Safe?

I buy lots of electronic and kitchen appliances for my house. I am sure you enjoy shopping for all this just like me. Recession is affecting each one of us, but still some things cannot be compromised. Don’t fall for discounts on products…they could be harmful.
Do you know that certain products are recalled from the market since they do not comply with the recommended safety standards? This includes your child’s toys too. So learn about Recalls and check if you don’t own any of those products at home. Get rid of them in case you do have them and ensure a safe haven for your family!
Fridge Secrets

I feel we really take our refrigerator for granted. Have you ever thought what we would do without our fridge at home? I will tell you how to care for it so that it will serve you well for years.
When you clean the fridge you should use vinegar instead of plain soap water to wipe it from inside. This will get rid of mildew fungus in the initial stages itself. One more useful tip is to place some baking soda in a cup in the fridge. It will absorb the food smells and keep the fridge free from odor.
Party in Style

Don’t be jittery the next time you are hosting a party! Chalk out a plan and make it work for you. You can do the cutting and chopping the previous day as a part of the party’s preparation. This will save time that you can utilize for yourself.
Make sure that you are ready with the food and other arrangements at least one hour before the guests are expected to walk in. Take a shower and freshen up for the occasion in this free time just for you.
I am sure your guests will be impressed and you will have a blast!
